Today I ran another 10K. And when I say I “ran” a 10K, what I really mean is that I walked and jogged and barely finished a 10K. This race was part of the Ohio Challenge Series and was held at Maize Valley Winery. The race was at 3pm. It’s July. At 3pm in July, it’s pretty darn hot! I usually try to avoid running in the heat, but I was thinking this would be a great accomplishment….
As I mentioned, the race was at a winery. We ran through fields, in-between the rows of grapes (really cool), through dirt, through woods, and through more grass. You can see people running through the grass in the one picture. That is them heading towards the finish line. Aside from the heat, it is MUCH harder to run in grass than on pavement. I wouldn’t have thought it would be so different, but it is. Did I mention it was hot? We needed about 20 more water stations. 😀
I survived, and I finished in 1 hour 13 minutes, even with all the walking. I was disappointed that I had to walk so much but frankly I was just happy to finish without crawling! There wasn’t a big turnout at this race, so I was lucky enough to finish 2nd place in my age group. Okay, so there were only 3 of us in my age group, but who’s counting?! 😉 I won a bottle of wine and a $10 gift certificate. It was pretty cool to win something even though I felt like it was NOT my best performance.
