CVNP Trail Running AT NIGHT!

Try not to be jealous of how awesome we look wearing headlamps. I know it will be tough, but please try.  I mean, really, could we look any sillier?  Are we running or going cave exploring?  Are we miners?  Anyway, tonight was another run for the fall running series that I am participating in.  The run didn’t start until 9pm, hence the headlamps!!!!  Also, it was pretty darn cold, but it was ALOT of fun!  We ran on a trail, through a field, on some asphalt, around some trees…it was a great variety of surfaces and environments. However, my headlamp is terrible!!

I bought a “Trailfinder” headlamp from Wal-Mart for $20 just because I wanted to try it out. I didn’t want to invest in an expensive one if I wasn’t going to be using it much.  Clearly I needed to buy a better one.  It kept slipping down and hitting my nose.  By the end of the 3 mile run, my forehead was sore from all the pushing up and slipping down.  There is a rubber backing on it that I thought would keep it in place, but not once I started sweating!

My running buddy has a Petzl and didn’t have any issues, so I think I’ll have to go check out some others ASAP.  I have my 4 mile night run tomorrow, so I’ll definitely need something better for that! That’s what I get for trying to be thrifty. I should have known that you get what you pay for!  I think I’ll still be able to use it when I’m walking, but it’s just not great for running.  It is also pretty bulky compared to the other ones I saw on other runners.

Even with the headlamp issues and the freezing cold, it was still a fun experience.  Looking like a goof is just part of the fun I guess.  It’s not that often you get to go running trails at night with a bunch of people all wearing lights on their heads.   🙂
